R&F: Knocked Out Cold

Reflection: This was a fun, quick, and directly to the point post, a strange read in the middle of July. I am proud of this piece, because one of the best things about being a writer (or anyone with creative power) is to sprinkle shade into your work. There’s a reason people journal for therapy, and I’ve always looked at this blog as a journal of sorts and this was just one of my many diss tracks on the album. Anyone who’s wronged me ends up as my inspiration. Looking back now, this post was not about the weather at … Continue reading R&F: Knocked Out Cold

R&F: Stray Snowballs

Reflection: In this (rare) time of my life, I can remember not caring about too much. I didn’t care about the way I looked, sometimes felt, or about what I was doing with my life. I miss this feeling often, but I know how important it is to grow up and seek direction. I was content with who I was and what I was doing, and I hadn’t been diagnosed with cold urticaria or seasonal affective disorder yet. I admire the strength I carried with me, and my use of metaphors and imagery (“a hot knife cutting through butter”- that’s … Continue reading R&F: Stray Snowballs

Confession: I Watch Jersey Shore

I’m assuming that the title enough gives away what I’m about to talk about, and I’m excited to address/admit to the fact that I still watch reruns of Jersey Shore shamelessly. I have met other scholarly-inclined people in my career and schooling, people who preach about the dangers and time consumption of television- especially the mind-numbingly pointless garbage reality shows (not my words), and if one wants to succeed in life, he or she must not spend time sitting idly by leaving Cheeto-dust fingerprints on the remote as they switch channels. The theory behind this behavior is a psychological one … Continue reading Confession: I Watch Jersey Shore

My Ultimate Bookshelf

I know, I know, I just got done talking about how much I love aimlessly wandering through libraries and accidentally knocking over books, but I can’t stop thinking about them. Books to a writer is like a triple-layer chocolate cream cake to a sugar addict. Writers are essentially just book addicts. Believe it or not, I only recently sat down to create a “Goodreads” account (I didn’t even realize my own book was in their collection), and have become infatuated all over again with reading as much as humanly possible. If you are a fellow reader, you can follow me … Continue reading My Ultimate Bookshelf

Grandparents: A Letter to My Future Child

Dear Future Child, I wanted to teach you a lesson about grandparents. A lesson that will make you run into their arms every time you don’t get your way (or when I refuse your dictator requests for more popsicles, like I did often to my mother). Because believe it or not, grandparents can be your closest ally, after your father and I of course.   You wouldn’t believe that amount of support you already have, my dear child. Between your parents, grandparents, and even great-grandparents you are immensely loved and treasured. You will be our greatest joy, and greatest worry. … Continue reading Grandparents: A Letter to My Future Child

Yellow Nail Polish

I received my first manicure when I was eight years old. I went with my mom to a small place in our hometown mall, and was immediately overwhelmed with the smell. The chemical fume and cleaning alcohols combined and drifted through the room, hitting my poor eight-year-old self in the face like a punch. An immediate headache formed at the base of my neck, but by the time I saw the “polish wall”, all thoughts of discomfort were forgotten. I had never seen so many different shades in my life, all organized so neatly and pristine in their racks. As … Continue reading Yellow Nail Polish

My To-Do List For February 2018

It is almost the beginning of the second month of the year, and as the time passes faster than bearable, I’ve gotten into the habit of making sure I take care of business. Anyone who knows me or even sits next to me in public is aware that I govern my life solely by the use of to-do lists. I make them for every day, every week, every month, and every year. Also for special events or occasions. There’s just too much to be done in the amount of time given (even though time is an illusion, it feels too … Continue reading My To-Do List For February 2018
